The baby boom was a relative thing caused by the dearth of babies in the 1930's (the Depression) and 1939-1945 (the men were all away at war and tens of millions of young men died).

The above refers to the "Developed World". I suspect there was no baby boom in, say, India, or South America or Central America, or the whole Muslim world.

The apocalypse will not be driven by technology change, but by financial collapse in the same "Developed World". It will mean the collapse of much of the social support network and the return of 1890s unrestricted capitalism. As before, most of the rest of the world will not be affected except that China will take over sooner than it otherwise would have. This will all happen in the next ten or fifteen years.
