I read this in Flytrap, and in this re-reading I remembered the essentials of the story maybe three or four sentences in. But: I've had a couple of years of parenthood in between then and now, and, oh, ouch.

I first read it as a parent and it ripped me in two.

Yeah, this was heartbreaking.

I think the story is upbeat and lovely -- as one who has been in exactly the situation of the protagonist many times.
